Southern Taiwan: Day 6 (Kenting National Park)

Today, we left Kaoshiung for Kenting National Park, which is located in the southernmost point of Taiwan. The main attractions are a cat, Nixon, a lighthouse, and of course, the beaches!

First up – Cat Rock! 🐈 Do you see him? Cat culture is really in Taiwan. In America, this would definitely be Dog Rock 🐕

The view to the left of Cat Rock. Cloudy, but gorgeous. No rain yet!

Toots and I got some classic photos today. She would only let me post certain ones 😂

This picture is definitely going to be the background on my work computer from now on.

When we got back on the tour bus, Alan was playing this gem haha!

Our next stop was very presidential. We visited a dead president – Nixon! Do you see him? 👃

Toots is getting pretty good at sneaking in basic emo shots of me! #blessed #humble

We evaded the impending monsoon, and snagged one last gem of a pic before heading off for the next stop.

Toots and I ran up a muddy hill to make it to the Eluanbi Lighthouse, a lighthouse built in the 19th century. To be honest, I missed a lot of the history because we were running around in the monsoon that started as soon as we arrived! Please see Wikipedia for more information:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eluanbi_Lighthouse

Toots chose to go with the umbrella rather than the poncho.

Nice work, Toots! Your have really stepped up your Insta game.

Walking back to the bus. Shoes were soaked through, but the rain felt so good. Dropped a solid 10 degrees out there!

After we survived the monsoon at the Eluanbi Lighthouse, we drove to Longpan Park, which is entirely on the Pacific side of the island. We had to walk a little bit to get to the scenic views of the ocean. I am very proud of Toots and her ability to snag emo pics of me today!

Just admiring the scenery of the Pacific Ocean here

Obligatory mother daughter pic ✌️

Toots became a master at the creepy back pictures on this trip. There are more pictures of my booty than my face!

That night, we stayed at the Hotel Royal Chihpen, another five star hotel run by the local native tribe.

The hotel featured indoor and outdoor spas – the dress code being nothing but a swim cap.

Above are the instructions for the spa. I opted to just take a hot bath in the room (every room came with a deep natural spring tub). I didn’t quite follow the instructions, and ended up quite dizzy! The buffet helped me out 😂

Belinda, our friend from the trip (shout out to Belinda! Good luck at college next year!), got me out on the floor to dance with a group of local native dancers. They perform every night at the hotel. Very entertaining!
